Vox2Text isn’t just for voice messages: you can load recordings of meetings, lectures, interviews, podcasts or videos, up to 200 MB and 3 hours per file on a computer (1 hour on a phone).
How to do it
- Use a computer with an up-to-date Chrome or Edge: the graphics card makes transcription much faster.
- Drop the file into the green box at the top: MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, OGG and OPUS. The duration shows up right away.
- Choose the language if you know it (slightly more accurate than automatic detection) and, if your browser allows it, the Best quality.
- Keep the page open. The progress bar shows the estimated time left and the screen stays on by itself. The text appears as it goes and you can copy it before the end.
How long does it take?
It depends on your computer. With a recent graphics card it often takes less time than the audio lasts; on the processor alone it can take longer. The estimate appears after the first parts and keeps updating.
Tips for a better transcript
- For very long files, MP3 is the best format.
- Clean audio (microphone close to the speaker, little background noise) gives better results.
- If a recording is longer than 3 hours, split it into parts.
- Always double-check names, numbers and technical terms.
What about privacy?
Work recordings are often confidential: with Vox2Text they never leave your computer, because transcription runs in the browser. Details in the privacy policy.
