In 4 steps
- Download the voice message. In WhatsApp Web or the desktop app, hover over the voice message, open the menu (the small arrow) and choose Download. The file lands in your Downloads folder with a name like
WhatsApp Ptt ….oggorWhatsApp Audio ….mpeg. - Drop it here. Drag one or more files into the green box at the top, or click it to choose them.
- Click Transcribe. The progress bar shows how far along it is and the time left; the language is detected automatically.
- Copy or download. Each voice message gets its own text, to copy or download as a
.txtfile.
Transcribing every voice message in a chat
If you need lots of voice messages, export the chat from your phone (in the chat options choose Export chat › Include media), move the ZIP file to your computer, unzip it and drop all the .opus files into Vox2Text.
Which browser?
An up-to-date Chrome or Edge: they use your graphics card (WebGPU) and transcribe much faster. Firefox works but can be slower.
Vox2Text or WhatsApp’s own transcripts?
WhatsApp shows voice message text only inside the app and only where the feature is available. With Vox2Text you can paste the text anywhere, download and archive it, transcribe dozens of voice messages at once and long recordings too (see the long audio guide).
Everything happens on your computer: files are never uploaded to any server. Details in the privacy policy.
